Tucked into the corner of the couch, Mina slept soundly. The exhaustion in her muscles forced her entire body to fall into the deep depths of dream world. While her body laid still, her mind was racing with sweet thoughts.
Mina… Mina… Someone was calling out to the gray wolf again. Mina was running through tall grass, chasing after whoever was calling out to her. Her legs moved with such force and purpose. They would lead her to what she was desiring.
Mina… This way, Mina… It’s this way… Did she know this voice that called out as if it had known her all along? Mina was unsure of what kept calling her. She just had to find the source. All of her worries and fears would be gone once she found what was pulling her forward. She could smell the wonderful scent of lunar flowers just up ahead. She heard no sounds, and all that was before her was the vivid green grass and the brilliant blue sky above.
Her legs stopped moving, and her paws became planted into the ground. Before the gray wolf stood another wolf of the same coloring as her. He was smaller than Mina, though, and was sitting down as though waiting. Amber eyes surveyed Mina as the other wolf’s head tilted slightly. She recognized this wolf immediately to be her deceased younger brother Alric.
You must wake… You are not safe there… This was Alric’s voice now, deep and distant. Open your eyes sister… Your rest has ended…
Mina woke with a start. She was still upon the couch where she had snuggled into a blanket that had been placed over her. She was warm and comfortable. The wolf let out a yawn as she stretched out a bit.
It took her a long moment to realize where she was. A slender fingered hand ran through her silver hair as she tried to collect herself. Her dreams were wonderful, but often worrisome. Something was going to happen; there was a great feeling of turmoil within Mina’s being. She had to fully wake and prepare for what was to come.

Deep in her dreams Senna was as she dreamt about Paradise, running in the beautiful carpets of flowers over the rolling hills with her brethren. Suddenly, a thunderstorm rolled in out of nowhere and the beautiful fields dried out and died. The streams of water tainted with pollution and the trees dead with all of their leaves gone. Corpses of the wolves she had been previously running with lay all around her; old dried up bones. Senna, the beautiful dark wolf with brilliant golden eyes was shocked as she gaped at the scene. A slick voice boomed out of seemingly nowhere. Senna looked around frightfully, trying to find the source, but the voice echoed from every corner of the dream. Then, she saw a shadow on top of a hill far off. Her wolf face stared wide eyed for a moment before twisting into unimaginable hate, and she sprung forth running with breakneck speed towards the tormenter. When she reached the shadowed man she jumped up to bite his neck but he summoned his weapon and struck her down. She didn’t have to be that smart to figure out he was a hunter, though she couldn’t see his face. He pinned her against the ground and said, amusingly,
Now, is that anyway to treat your master?
Senna woke with a start, gasping for breath as if she had stopped breathing, still feeling the pang of pain from the strike and a throbbing headache. She looked around her frantically as if she had no idea where she was, or fear of being someplace she didn’t know, but calmed after she saw that she was still in the hideout. She was sitting up and sitting on her legs on her corner of the couch. She sighed with relief letting her head hang down, her dark hair covering her face as she closed her eyes with a troubled expression. She placed a hand on her head.
“It was… only a nightmare…” She whispered to herself.
She opened her eyes and stayed still for a moment before turning her head to see Mina was looking at her. There was a worried expression on her face. She didn’t know it wasn’t really about her but Senna smiled reassuringly anyway and looked at her with a concern.
“Are… you okay?”

The gray wolf had looked over to the brown wolf as she too woke with a start. Had she always slept like this? Mina wondered if waking up from tormenting nightmares was a usual for this new wolf. They had both woken up with distress; something was amiss.
“I am fine,” Mina responded with a slight nod as she slipped out of the covers. “Are you alright is the question? You woke up with quite a fright, Senna.”
The female wolf stood up from where she had been curled into the couch. She stretched out her arms slowly, grimacing as her collarbone gave a great pang of pain. How she wanted the injury to heal quickly. She grew tired of having to restrain her movements because of that crack in her bone. Damn hunter would pay for what he had done to her, perhaps not with death but in some way she would have a small revenge for such pain.
Dark eyes searched the room. The two wolves were alone. Odd. The homeless kid from before was nowhere in sight. The child’s stench was upon Mina; she could smell wherever he had touched her. How had he gotten so close and why? She had definitely been passed out to have allowed someone so close to her. Something was wrong.
“Who was that child from before, and where did he go?” she asked Senna.

“I am fine,” She said, trying to sound confident but failed miserably, “It was just a nightmare. I get those frequently, but…” She paused for a moment averting her eyes to the floor, “it was more vivid than most.”
Senna thought about her nightmares. She dreamed nearly every single night and most of them were not so bad and they always feel nostalgic, as if they were memories of her life, bits and pieces that never really made any sense, even when put together. But when they are bad, they are almost too awful for her. In the nightmare she had had this night, she was a wolf that was not herself attacking what she thought to be the wolf’s master, but the wolf looked very much like Senna, with dark brown almost black fur and powerful yellow eyes, and the mark of the star on her upper leg/lower back on the left side, except this wolf much older, and she wore a collar with a strange symbol she didn’t really recognize to show that she belonged to the nobles and the hunters. Senna felt deep inside that this nightmare was very significant in her life, though she couldn’t figure out how or why. Another mystery added on to her empty life. Or old empty life. A new adventure had taken hold of her about paradise and the flower maidens, along with the quest of finding out more about herself.
Senna looked at the fire, a distant look in her golden yellow eyes. It had died down significantly and it was about to go out. She thought about the little boy who is always taking care of that fire as if it was his only comfort in this cruel and empty world. She was so into that thought thinking hard about it, but with her keen hearing she could still hear Mina ask her about him. She turned her head slowly with her thoughtful expression, big confused yellow eyes fixed on Mina now.
“That child… we call him little Duane… He had an older brother but he died. He is never gone. He is always here, tending to the fire. He’s obsessed with the fire… he doesn’t even go out when there is nothing to eat. Poor kid goes hungry for long periods of time just to keep by the fire. I don’t understand why he is not here now… ”
Senna looks at the dying fire for a moment before looking at the door. She could smell his scent all over the room but this was the first time she smelled it on the door and outside up the steps and away from the hideout.
“Maybe he just went out for a stroll…”
She tried to be optimistic about the situation. Despite her calm and sad exterior at the moment, it was simply because the times were getting too hard. But Senna is one to be usually kind and happy always cheering others up and on. She was even known not to be messed with too much because she could win a fight so easily when she put her mind to it, or when she got angry enough, and especially when defending other less fortunate people; if there was anything she hated most in the world was injustice.

The gray wolf listened to the other wolf’s words. How strange it was for the boy to leave then. Especially since this was the first time Mina had came into their hideout. There was something wrong. A boy who never left the fire had to have some ulterior motive for going outside. More of a reason than just to go on a walk.
Mina stood up stretching out as best as she could with her hurt collarbone. The pain seemed less now that she had had time to rest her limbs and close her eyes. She could not shake that feeling of something being wrong, though. Senna was trying to be positive, but now was not the time. There was something amiss here, and Mina did not want to be caught off guard.
“His scent is upon our beings,” she said to the dark wolf. “He got awfully close to us while we slept. I think he was checking if we were alert. He has gone off to do something foul; I am sure of it.”
The female wolf’s skin seemed to crawl with the idea that the boy was up to no good. She felt as though hunters would be after them. He had gone off to get hunters.
“I don’t think he was sleeping when we were talking about Paradise, when we were talking about being wolves. Senna, this is very serious. Humans don’t take well with the idea of wolves being amongst them especially when they can profit off of us.

Takeshi sat upon the stoop of his apartment as we watched Tsume circle around the skies, searching for her meal. He watched the golden eagle suddenly dive down, most likely seeing some sort of small creature scampering in the shadows of a dark alleyway. A small smile crossed his lips as the bird rose into the air once more and soared down to his side, a rat held in its sharp talons. Tsume was pretty much the only family he had left… He stroked the back of his index finger along the back of the bird’s neck as it ate it’s prey. The city had been pretty quiet for the past few days. He had not heard of anymore wolves lurking about Ángeles Caídosse and to be frank, he was enjoying the quiet time he now had. The only downfall was when his mind wandered back to the night when his father died… He found himself waking up in a cold sweat at night after having a nightmare about the dreadful night.
The shrill voice of a small boy harassed Takeshi’s ear and he turned to see the child running up his street. He reached to his side and laid his hand on the handle of one of his pistols. If that kid came within five feet of him, he would make the boy have to learn to use crutches…. But the words that escaped the boy’s throat made him relinquish his grip on the firearm almost immediately.
“WOLVES! PLEASE! SOMEONE HELP!”
Takeshi leapt off the steps and picked up the boy by the collar of his shirt. He could feel the child’s panting breath blowing against his face and sneered in disgust. This child’s breath was a rank as the breath of a wolf after it devoured a fresh kill. He held the boy at a further distance but kept his brown eyes pinned to the small boy’s blue ones.
”Will you quiet down!? Crying wolf isn’t something you should be doing around this town, boy. Now tell me, what is going on?”
Takeshi listened as the boy explained his tale and smiled slightly at the end. So there WERE wolves in the city and they were asleep in a little secret hideout. The term “like shooting fish in a barrel” crossed through his mind as he set the boy back down. Lord Darcia would be pleased when he brought two wolves to him neatly wrapped in a ribbon of blood. He let out a short curt whistle, causing Tsume to flap up and land on his shoulder. Takeshi then glared at the boy while pointing past him.
”Now show me where this hideout of their’s is…”
Takeshi sped after the child, his trench coat billowing behind him, cutting through alleys and over small piles of rubble. This city was even more run down than he remembered. Drops of filthy water splashed up, causing Tsume to ruffle her feathers as Takeshi stepped into a puddle. It was most likely the multiplication of all these wolves that is causing this, causing the city to go to hell… More forces being spent on eradicating this plague to society than on keeping their city from crumbling down around them. The boy suddenly stopped and placed his index finger to his lips as he crept through a large crack in the wall. Takeshi removed his two handguns and held them in his hands at the ready as he entered through the same crack into an abandoned building, puddles of rainwater surrounding them as they walked through it. The boy then led him down more alleyways and through an enruined courtyard with a large tree as the center of it. Takeshi was surprised such a thing could live in this disgusting place… Perhaps it was sort of a metaphor for how he viewed himself… But now was not the time for philosophy… The child entered through another crack between two walls of another abandoned house where he stopped and gestured to a staircase. There was a little stream inside the abandoned home that entered from the leaking roof and through a broken window. Of course a wolf would live in such a filthy hellhole… As Takeshi neared the staircase, he gestured for the boy to remain there as he went down. Tsume remained on his shoulder, almost seeming tense from excitement. And as he slowly opened the door, there they were, sleeping upon the couch, huddled together. Oh this was simply perfect! It seemed that the creature’s senses weren’t what they used to be… Tsume soared up into the rafter to watch for any signal from her master and he clicked back the hammer on both the guns, the barrels pointed at the furry foreheads of both of them. He allowed the sweet taste of victory to fill his mouth as he imagined the wine red blood running down from the bullet hole left behind by the single shot. He took a deep breath and allowed an evil grin to cross his lips.
“I wonder… Do they feel death approaching…?”

Mina was uncompromising about the situation, as much as Senna figured she would be, but she smiled sadly all the same. She was strong and brave and did not want to be put at an inconvenient spot if it could be prevented and looking at things from a positive point of view would not help them as wolves. For this she admired Mina all the more.
And she was completely right; again. The two female wolves had let their guards down completely, both being utterly and deeply into slumber. And she could smell the boy’s scent on them both, exactly where he had touched.
“You are right… we were careless… But what can we do?”
Suddenly, Senna froze, even stopping her very breath. With her keen hearing, she heard something above ground, in the courtyard. Were those… footsteps she heard? And Mina must have heard it too for she had her eyes closed as she listened. Senna closed her eyes and sniffed the air. She could smell the boy up above, but he had someone with him, a vague scent unfamiliar to her nose, and they were making their way to the hideout fast. The boy must have been leading him there. Mina was right to assume what she did, and they should have gotten out of there as soon as they had the chance. Was there still time left? Her mind whirled desperately in circles and entangled thoughts dominated her mind making it so that it was hard for her to make anything out, or even think properly about it, and they were running out of time.
All of a sudden, it came to her, like a light at the end of the tunnel flashing dimly but noticeably. She turned to Mina with a serious expression, more serious than she felt she had been her whole life, focused and ready to act.
“We can trick him,” She turns her head to look at the door, pausing for a moment before looking back at Mina again, “The hunter may know where we are but he doesn’t know what we are doing, and for all that he knows, we could be asleep. So let us pretend to be asleep again. Take up our positions on the couch. He won’t suspect a thing.”
For some reason, Senna smiled. She noticed the blood in her veins pumping fast to the rhythm of her erratic heartbeat. What was this strange feeling of apprehension, and… exhilaration… that overcame Senna? She reminisced on the thought that this feeling was not new to her, but now was not the time to think. She shifted into her wolf form and jumped on the couch quickly, curling up on the same corner she was in before. She gave a quick look to Mina from the corner of her eyes that told her to trust her and closed her eyes. Mina was next to her side in a second taking her own position, huddling next to Senna.
Before they even knew it, footsteps were coming from right above them. They walked up to the top of the stairs the hunter made his way down. Each footstep of the rubber soles of his… boots…?... seemed to last for an eternity as time stretched the closer he got, his steps getting louder as he made his way down. The fragrances of the air mixed considerably. The smell of the boy still lingered in the room, but the wolves’ scent now mixed with the hunter’s own aroma. He smelled something else, too; the all too well-known scent of a bird. That is what was so strange about sniffing out the Hunter. He smelled a lot like that bird.
Senna tried to relax her body and breathing as he opened the door so that she really did look as if she were really asleep. The tension was insane but it was imperative that she remained calm. And then she heard the click of the guns. There was a ringing sound from the cling of the metal resonating through the air that could only be depicted by the great hearing of a great beast such as a wolf.
A gun was to her head, and she knew it. She knew it and yet she was frozen still; frozen by the sudden fear that grappled at her heart and became her instant enemy aside to the hunter that threatened their very lives. Like a soul haunting her heart, she did not dare move, but why? Why the sudden hesitation? Perhaps it was the Senna that had lived for the past year, her coyness, insecurity and trepidation… that overcame the strange Senna that did not seem afraid just moments ago. With all of her soul, will, and mind, she hoped that Mina would do something instead of Senna. It was the moment that Mina lead, that Senna would follow.
Mina....

Then came the footfalls of two humans making their way quickly to the hideout. The boy was back and behind him trailed a friend, and Mina knew this second person was a hunter. Hunters had a faint smell of death upon their being. Every wolf they murdered seemed to leave the scent of wolf’s blood upon them. This one would not catch them off guard.
The gray wolf listened to the other’s idea. Mina had no other choice but to put faith in Senna’s words, and she slowly followed her actions. Mina was injured; what choice did she have? She laid down upon the couch beside the other wolf and waited. Her ears twitched ever so slightly as she listened to the movements of the boy, the hunter, and another creature. A bird was flying about them. A hawk more exactly; Mina could smell and almost hear the strength in the wings.
The movements stopped at the door, and then came a click and the sound of the door opening. The scent of the hunter was so strong, so suffocating. But there he was; guns out and pointing to the wolves. Mina’s heart was racing, and her mind was on overdrive. Now was the time to act. Now before the hunter had his chance to pull the trigger, the wolves had to make their moves.
No thoughts passed through Mina’s head. Her limbs simply kicked into action. A snarl slipped over her mouth as her body leapt up and lunged toward the hunter. She moved perhaps faster than most wolves. Her body twisted back and forth with expert precision as she moved forward. She knew not to keep her body still or in a straight line. Foolish wolves died with such movements. The hunter needed a clear and straight on shot to kill her.
A growl and then a leap. Her vision turned red as she bounded towards the hunter. She had to knock him back somehow. They needed to get through the door to the hideout to get back into the city and back into safety. Mina was in no shape to fully bring a hunter down, and if he did not get injured that was fine. She had to make contact with him and push him away.
Through the quick moments, Mina could only think of one other thing. “Senna, run!"

Takeshi’s eyes opened wide as he saw the wolf snarl and leap at him, while the other sped past him and toward the staircase. They… They had tricked him!? His heart began to race as pure, undiluted rage began to pump through his very being. How dare they…. How dare they!? Foul loathsome little beasts! They had been awake this entire time and he had been stupid enough to fall for their little ruse! The wolf ran in a serpentine pattern but it leapt toward his chest, its teeth most likely headed for his throat. The hunter held his arms before him in an X formation so that the wolf’s neck would fall snuggly between while keeping it’s dangerous, gnashing teeth from digging into his throat. Silly thing about wolves was that aspect. They always attacked head on and never once seemed to ever think that someone could easily use it against them. Takeshi smiled evilly, allowing himself to fall onto his back as soon as the wolf landed on him. Using the momentum of the attack, the fall, and his own force, Takeshi pressed his feet to the wolf’s soft underbelly and flipped it over him and through the air. He heard the creature give a cry as it slammed into the wall, and fell to the ground.
Takeshi stood and dusted himself off, picking off each disgusting wolf hair that lay on his coat. It was always the worst part of these hunts… But he seemed to have gained the upper hand in this fight already. He felt the usual confidence overtake him as his anger ebbed away. He drew closer to the injured wolf and pulled out the handgun at it.
“I’m surprised you managed to live this long on only three legs. I suppose what I am about to do could be seen as an act of mercy toward you. Perhaps you should be grateful toward me. Unfortunately, your little companion isn’t going to be as lucky. She’s going to die like the dog she is.”
Takeshi kept his eyes on the creature with both his guns pointed at it. Now that he had this one cornered, all he had to do was get the other one out into the open… The hunter then smiled and called out to the other wolf who had been there, knowing that whenever one wolf is cut off from the group, the others will not leave it. Thank god that these stupid creatures were pack animals or they would have been so difficult to kill.
“I know you’re still here... Why haven’t you come to help your little friend yet? Is it that you don’t care if she dies right here? To be truthful, I would be more than happy to end her miserable little existence here and now. But that doesn’t seem like much of a challenge. So being the sportsman I am, I’m giving you a chance to try and save her before I either kill you both or kill her now and hunt you down after. Your choice…”

Senna bolted off of the couch in her dark wolf form with breakneck speed and up the stairs. She heard the commotion that was going on behind her and froze at the top of the stairs. Her hind legs where on the third and fourth step while her front paws were placed at the top and she turned her head to look behind her. Her ears were pulled back in fright. Senna was frozen and didn’t know what to do. She could hear everything that went on so clearly as if she were in the middle of it. The gnashing of wolf teeth as Mina tried to attack the hunter. For some reason, in her mind, Senna knew it wouldn’t work. Tactics ran through it as if she were trained for combat, as if she knew exactly what went on in a hunter’s mind. As if she could intercept the move before it even happened. But why? She had never actually faced a hunter in battle… Or at least, not that she could remember anyway. The more she thought about it, a new side of her began to awaken. But she was still scared and the memories were all still gone like a blank paper image.
Senna winced when she heard Mina cry out in pain as she struck something. The wall maybe? Should she go and help her? She had only just met the beautiful gray wolf, so why should she? And Senna had always fended for herself, anyway. She wasn’t really much of a pack kind of wolf, if not, more of a lone wolf.
Two gleaming yellow orbs that were her eyes disappeared as she closed them with a troubled expression. But then she started to realize… Mina had a lot to offer Senna. Mina had given Senna a new hope she thought couldn’t possibly exist in this cruel and dismal world, the hope for paradise. A new adventure. A purpose for her life. And so when she heard the hunter call out to her she felt the pang of anger consume her and her lip curled back in hate, her fangs showing clearly. A nasty and furious rumble excaped her gullet as she turned and ran back to help Mina. She knew he was only calling out to her and saying the things he was saying to get her to come back. He probably had it in his mind that they were a pack and Senna would not leave Mina behind. In truth, if that were the case, they had just become a pack and Senna had to help Mina no matter what. Perhaps it was an obligation but at that moment Senna only wanted to protect Mina. And she would. For both their sakes.
The great dark wolf was like a blur as she appeared behind the hunter, but she would expect him to expect her to be coming from behind. She circled him once, keeping her eyes on his weapons, she attacked him from the side enjoying the taste of blood on her tongue as fangs sank into flesh, and pushed off of him with her paws. The room was too small to maneuver around too much so she went to Mina pushing her with her muzzle to move and they both ran up the stairs and towards the courtyard.
“Are you okay…? Are you good to run? I can distract him if you are too injured… Or…”
A sense of urgency towards killing the hunter overcame her naturally.

All talk. That was what humans were. All they did was open their mouth and allowed garbage to throw up from their throat. Hardly any of them spoke wisdom. This hunter was no different. He continued to bait them with insults.
His guns stared back at the gray wolf, and she showed no fear. She had leapt back up onto her paws and was snarling at the hunter. Mina was hoping that Senna would not come back, but when the darker wolf appeared she was somehow not surprised. Senna reappeared and with quick movements had distracted the hunter and the two wolves were speeding up the stairs and out into the courtyard.
“Keep running,” Mina urged instantly. “There is no way for us to bring this hunter down. Maybe next time, but for now we must keep running. He will give chase, so we do not have much time. Senna, we must go.”
The gray wolf gave a quick nuzzle to the other wolf before bounding off. In her mind, they had to get running. In her state, she was unable to take on the hunter with full force. She did not have the strength for such tact. Not to mention, this hunter fought with guns.
Truly, Mina was only concerned because she would be unable to protect Senna if something went wrong. She was unsure of how familiar the other female wolf was of fighting. She had a strong urge to protect Senna.

Takeshi grimaced as he felt a searing pain on the right side of his chest. He then felt himself being kicked forward and falling to the cold concrete floor. The wolf was faster than he had expected. Had it been anyone else, they would have stayed down and tried to stop the blood loss. But something filled Takeshi's heart that forced him to move. Anger, hatred, the despair of loss. All of these emotions were suddenly shot through his system like adrenaline, forcing his limbs to press through the immense pain, his hands sinking into a small pool of blood that grew next to him, painting his hands red. His eyes tried to focus on the wolves as they ran up the stairs and his now labored breathing only allowed for a growl of words to escape his throat.
"Damn wolves...."
Gripping the guns tightly in his hands, Takeshi pushed himself up off the ground and ran after the two wolves. He could not let himself trip when he was so close to the finish line. If they split up, all he would really need to do was follow one of them and kill them. Most likely he would follow the one he rammed into the wall. The creature seemed to be weakened by the blow and he was also weakened by his wound. It would be easier to take down than the younger wolf considering it's speed and power. After entering the courtyard he could hear the patter their footsteps and followed them through the pain, blood trailing on the ground behind him. And after it was dead it would only be a matter of time before the other one fell into his clutches once more…

Senna turned her head to look back where they had left the hunter in their hideout. She thought about the disturbing melancholic feeling she had felt when she had seen the hunter’s face. How she knew his moves and intercepted them as if he could read his mind, nostalgia overcoming her as she felt like she knew him from somewhere… but form where? She knew that she could never return to this place ever again, and that she must move on to her new destiny.
She accepted Mina’s warm and caring gesture, muzzling her back, and ran with her, away, keeping a steady pace so that Mina may keep up. They ran through musty, damp allyways, and out into the streets where crowds of people walked hurriedly about their business. Senna looked at her worriedly wondering if she could make it safely away from the hunter.
“Perhaps we should… split up…? I do-“
Senna froze and came to a stop at the window of a clothing shop. She stared up at a manikin dressed up in a breasted red jacket coming down just past the waist, a black mini skirt and black boots. Her hands were pressed against the glass now as she stared up at it as if in awe. She was startled when the store manager yelled at her to scram. Dressed the way she was dressed in her dirty and torn attire, he must have figured she was up to no good, as they all usually did. She stared at him for a second and blinked before suddenly smiling a brilliant smile that startled the manager. She had never used her faultless looks on anyone before.
“Sorry, Mister.”
She ran off, catching up to Mina, who was waiting just a block away. She ran past her and into another allyway. There was large pipes sticking out of the walls and she ran into one of the larger ones. She turned to Mina as she entered, as to explain:
“I’m sorry… about that. But I do say that I look like a rat from the sewers next to you…” to this she was referring when they were in human form, she smiled apologetically as she pulled out the folded clothes once seen on the manikin folded up from under her dress. Quickly she changed her clothes. She squirmed, feeling uncomfortable in them, but they fit well enough, “I will have to get used to them though…” She pulled on her short dark hair, which most of the time covered much of her face. She looked at Mina, concerned, “And I thought you could use a break, too. Are you sure… that you are okay…?” Senna passed her fingers carefully pushing strands of her hair back to reveal her face, “You do not look so well, Mina… I know we must keep running…” She paused, looking outside, seemingly distracted by the noise, “we must get out of this place…” She stopped talking, lost in thoughts, her brilliant yellow eyes distant.

The silver wolf was a determined one. She had never allowed a hunter to get the very best of her, and this hunter would be no different. Sure, the hunter from the club had damaged her collarbone, but he had not killed nor would she have allowed him to. Even with her injury Mina was quick as the flash of a lightning bolt. She could still weave between people, but not as good as she usually could.
Senna had stopped, and Mina waited a short distance away from the other wolf. This one could get distracted easily. A red outfit had drawn her eye in, and Mina watched as the dark wolf retrieved the clothing and quickly caught up with Mina. The two wolves made their way over to the large pipes which were common in many of the cities. Senna slipped into one of the pipes and Mina followed after.
Mina sat down and leaned back against the walls of the pipe. Her eyes closed slowly, and she simply listened to their surroundings. The hunter was probably still tracking them. He seemed to be a determined foe.
“I can manage,” Mina said, her voice soft. “I am stronger than I look. I can ignore the pain of my injuries. The pain is temporary, and I would rather not let something so temporary cause the end of my life.”
This was Mina’s city. There were ways to escape the city that most humans could not identify nor find. Both of them could get out without the hunter realizing.
“Use your nose, Senna. I think the only way to lose this hunter is to get out of the city. You know the stench of this city; just find an aroma of sun warmed grass and of the drying bark of a tree and of its leaves. It’s always faint, but the scent is there. Just track the smell down.”
